One Size Does Not Fit All

For the most part here on the RGG blog we focus on traditional book clubs where a group of mostly women get together to discuss literary fiction or memoirs.  But since I began writing for this blog, I have come across all kinds of interesting book clubs that don't fit that mold.  Here are just a few for your perusal:

  • Mother/Daughter Book Clubs
  • All Male Book Clubs
  • Work Related Book Clubs (we have one at my office where we read marketing related books).
  • Sports Team Book Clubs (i.e. The Atlanta Falcon's had required reading last year).
  • Genre Specific Books Clubs (Sci-Fi, Mystery, etc.)
  • Graphic Novel Book Clubs
  • Classics Only Book Clubs
  • Non-Fiction Only Books Clubs
  • College Book Clubs (usually mandatory??)
  • Community Wide or City Wide Book Clubs
  • Science or Technical Book Clubs

You get the idea.  I think it's pretty awesome that almost any group out there can finds books that bring them together.   My question to you, Dear Reader, are a member of any of these non-traditional groups and if you are - how effective are they?  Do they stick together and last for years like some more traditional ones do?  Do they foster the same kind of bonds?  Let me know... and as always, please feel to share here on the blog or email me at [email protected]!
