Today’s book clubs in the news post is really just a quick jaunt around the country to see whose reading what and with whom.  Enjoy!

NewPages Blog:  Pen American Center launches new online reading group.
PEN American Center, the largest branch of the world’s oldest literary and human rights organization, announced today the creation of PEN Reads, an online reading group that will bring readers and writers together to discuss works of literature relevant to PEN’s mission. The inaugural title will be The Hour of the Star (New Directions) by the legendary Brazilian author Clarice Lispector.

The Washington Post:  Rick Riordan’s RED PYRAMID is Summer 2010 KidsPost book club pick.
This book kicks off Riordan's Kane Chronicles series, something his fans have been waiting for since "The Last Olympian," the fifth and final book of the Percy Jackson series, was published last year. Like that series, "The Red Pyramid" deals with mythology (although this time it's Egyptian instead of Greek), features kids who discover they have connections to the gods and unknown powers, and is written with lots of humor, action and danger.

Norwalk News: Richard Russo appears at local community read program this week!
The sixth annual Wilton Reads! program will close with a bang this Sunday, when Pulitzer winner Richard Russo appears to discuss his latest novel, "That Old Cape Magic."  Russo's book is at the center of the Wilton Library's sixth annual Wilton Reads! program, which kicked off at the beginning of this month. This community even distributed free copies of the book!  I might have to move there.

So basically, Al Roker was in Des Moines yesterday for a charity project.  What does that have to do with book clubs you ask?  Well it took this article about his visit to alert me to the fact that he has a book club for kids where his mission is to help kids stay excited about reading.  Read more about it here
