Advance Readers' Comments for MOST WANTED

In February, 100 book clubs won copies of MOST WANTED by Lisa Scottoline. Take a look at some of the groups' comments to give you more insight into this book... and watch out for spoilers!

Foxy Readers Book Club from Fox Lake, WI, Beaver Dam, WI, Waupun, WI, West Bend, WI and Downer’s Grove, IL (ages 50-67)
While your group hadn’t discussed any Lisa Scottoline books before, had any members read Lisa Scottoline prior to this?: Yes. Several of us have read her books and recommended to others.

What did you all think of MOST WANTED?: We liked all that was going on in the story, even though it was unrealistic. We really enjoy the stories of the other characters, but the author could be more careful to make the stories seem more realistic. Overall, she kept us very entertained and we couldn’t put the book down. We all thought this book would make a great movie. I was a good book, but unrealistic in that we could not imagine why Christine went to visit Zachary at the prison and she didn’t tell her husband and then got him a lawyer and how he asked her to help pay for the lawyer. How she convinced the lawyer, Griff, to hire her. How she interviewed all neighbors and got no controversy over it or questioned by any of them and how they all seemed to be open to talking with her.
There was a disconnect between the beginning of the book where Christine was all for her husband and then the second half where she was doing all this stuff for her. It was like a split personality thing going on. It didn’t quite flow right. One member pictured the ending as a great movie scene. The character at the end that ended up being the serial killer wasn’t built up at all by the author. [SPOILER] You only met this person twice, once when Christine interviewed him and then when she saw him at the memorial for Gail. Why did he kill the nurses? What led up to them? What kind of person was he? It was out of the blue this killer came to be.
The author surprised us all by Zachary not being donor 3319. She built up Christine’s best friend, Lauren, in the first half of the book, then it seemed like she just dropped her.
However, one book group member said if you’ve read any of her other books, her female heroine empower women to go out and fight for their clauses. They don’t sit back and take things at face value like in LOOK AGAIN, SAVE ME, COME HOME.
We would have liked some documentation at the back of the book as to where she researched the subject of using a donor. We would have liked some background information on the subject and some of the basic laws. Maybe the final copy has that in it? We questioned whether it was a common procedure for donors to give photos and provide more personal information like going to medical school.

Describe the book in three words: Current, thought-provoking, unsettling

How would you all describe this book?: Just when you think everything you wished for is coming true something comes along to shake you to the very core. How do you go on when the child you are carrying might be a product of donated sperm from a killer? What would you do to find out the truth?

Would you all recommend?: Yes, it produced a lively discussion on what would you do? The ladies did not figure out the real killer until late in the book. It was surprising how few regulations there are in place for sperm donations.

Ravenous Readers from Des Plaines, IL (ages 50-75)

Describe the book in three words: Thought-provoking, timely, suspenseful

How would you all describe this book?: It was a thoughtful, well-researched, suspenseful novel. The characters were interesting and the ending was surprising, if a bit contrived. It’s a very good novel for discussion of topics relating to infertility and nature versus nurture.

Group B: Thought it was contrived with many improbable scenarios.

Rating: 4.5

Describe the book in three words: Intriguing, intense, surprising

How would you all describe this book?: Many could not put the book down as they felt compassion for Christine to “know for sure” if Jeff Coat was #3319. The reaction of Marcus was believable and the characters of Griff was very entertaining. All felt they were taking the trip with Christine to find the truth. Just when all thought they had figured it out. Boom! The outcome took a different loop. Mind blown!! Great story!!

Would you all recommend?: Yes! Many have already. Some would be sensitive to make sure that someone who is currently, or has recently gone through fertility issues, as they would provide a caveat to reading it.

Barefoot Bookreaders from Pawleys Island, SC (ages 55-72)
While your group hadn’t discussed any Lisa Scottoline books before, had any members read Lisa Scottoline prior to this?: Three of our members had read books by Lisa Scottoline before. Three had
not.

What did you all think of MOST WANTED?: Some of us really enjoyed it and had a hard time putting it down. The author’s writing style made me some of us feel like we were part of the story, but the story was geared more to women readers. One complaint we had was that Lisa seemed to take too much time on “feelings” descriptions early in the book rather than moving forward with the story line. In fact, the final 50 pages or so of the book contained the whole gist of the story. The first 350 pages were the big “lead on.”

Rating: 4

Describe the book in three words: Suspenseful, spellbinding, intense

How would you all describe this book?: This book describes “place” very well. You can’t put it down and the characters are carefully and lovingly imagined. It’s informative about the hard times some couples have becoming pregnant and it goes into the procedures that have to be faced in getting sperm donations and trying to find out all the features of the donors. It also covers the legalities and insecurities that are faced by couples after having undergone this procedure. What would you do if you find out the sperm donor of your unborn child was a potential serial killer? How far would you go to find the identity of the donor and how much would you be willing to risk to find out the truth? It is a gripping thriller that you don’t want to put down. You feel the emotions of the characters and you care about them. There is murder and mayhem, but warms your heart in the end. You feel as though you were there fighting for the main character. Although it is a thriller story, it is also a story of a couple truly in love. It  combines a husband-wife relationship, a best friend scenario and family issues within a mystery storyline.

Would you all recommend?: Yes, it seemed so real. Some of us have already recommended it to friends. It is well-written and keeps you on the edge of your seat.

What did you all think of MOST WANTED?: Five out of seven members really enjoyed the book and couldn't stop reading it. They didn't want it to end, which is the mark of a good novel. Two people didn't care for the story idea, which could have been an age thing. All five people who liked the book thought the ending chase scene was too long and confusing. We all found many typos and grammar mistakes (25) in the book, something I hope the editors caught as others read the book.

Pam N. and her group from Alma, MI, Canton, MI and Hemlock, MI (ages 25-70)
While your group hadn’t discussed any Lisa Scottoline books before, had any members read Lisa Scottoline prior to this?: None of our group had read this author before. As I am a prolific reader, I was amazed to see many titles by this previously unknown to me author on the shelves of our local public library.

What did you all think of MOST WANTED?: Our group felt this was an interesting read, held our attention, and provided insight into the sperm donation process. The plot was a bit uneven as we didn't know how an elementary teacher could instantly become a paralegal, and how she had access to the prison. Why did Zachary feel he wanted to please Christine by lying to her about the donor? Why didn't they check to see if Zachary actually had a sister who died? These questions troubled us. We did like the portrayal of the friendship between Christine and Lauren, and the character of Griff.

Rating: 3

Describe the book in three words: Interesting, suspenseful, contrived

How would you all describe this book?: It's about a young teacher and her husband who have trouble conceiving a baby, then do conceive by sperm donation as the infertility was due to the husband. The couple find out accidentally that their sperm donor may be a serial killer. The book takes us on the young wife's quest to find out the truth. I thought some of the plot was uneven, and sometimes hard to believe, but I cared enough to want to know the result. It is a quick read, of average literary merit.

Would you all recommend?: We would recommend this book to certain readers. I did send a copy to my daughter who responded favorably when I described the book.

Rating: 3

Describe the book in three words: Interesting, unrealistic, amateurish

How would you all describe this book?: Some of us would say it’s an interesting and easy read with a compelling story line, but it’s hard to follow all the characters. It reminded some of us of a Hallmark movie and it would make a good beach read. Others would say it’s poorly written with unlikely scenarios, too predictable and a sad apology for a mystery.

Would you all recommend?: Yes and no. Yes for someone who wanted a quick read and books with a twist. No because the writing quality is not outstanding and a bit dull.

Bookies with Class from Dublin, OH (ages 60-79)
While your group hadn’t discussed any Lisa Scottoline books before, had any members read Lisa Scottoline prior to this?: One member had read Scottoline before.

What did you all think of MOST WANTED?: Generally, we enjoy these types of books and found the plot interesting. With all the advancements in medicine there are a lot of situations that could arise that previously people would not have be aware of prior to the birth of a child. One of us would have stopped reading the book at the end of the first chapter because the idea that the problem would be the possibility of the sperm donor being a serial killer seemed extreme. It was interesting to learn more about the process of sperm donation and the questions and possible consequences down the road. I thought Marcus' issues with his infertility showed a different side of the problem that I hadn't considered. Some of us liked the character development of Marcus, showing how very difficult this journey was for him. However, Christine's plotting and behavior was unrealistic. The end had a nice twist which was not predictable throughout the story. The title was creative with its double meaning.

Rating: 3

Describe the book in three words: Action-packed, thought-provoking, relationships

How would you all describe this book?: This is a story of a couple with fertility problems. It appears that the sperm donation they used may have come from a man accused of murder. The mother-to-be sets out find the truth.

Bookies at Play from St. Charles, MO (ages 52-64)
While your group hadn’t discussed any Lisa Scottoline books before, had any members read Lisa Scottoline prior to this?: No.

What did you all think of MOST WANTED?: It was very topical and relevant to today’s society. It seemed like it was written to be a Lifetime movie. It was somewhat tiring to read because of the simple language. There were few clues given to the reader and this felt unfair. The author didn’t let Christine respect her husband's feelings when he wanted to sue for the donor's name and talked with her about considering an abortion.

Rating: 3

Describe the book in three words: Fast-paced, clever, great characters

What did you all think of MOST WANTED?: One reader thought that the main character, Christine, was not believable. She thought no one would be that easy to believe whatever they say and read. Another reader said that she likes the author and enjoys her writing style, but did not like the story. The two readers who gave it a higher rating both enjoyed the story and liked that it had a happy ending. One reader thought it had too much information about sperm donors. I liked the book a lot although, it did take me a while to get into it. Once I did, it was a quick read and very enjoyable. Being married to a doctor, I did feel that I already knew a lot about sperm donors as this is a way lots of medical students make extra money. Many members liked all the facts and thought they were interesting.

Rating: 4

The lady got pregnant and then she thought her donor was a serial killer because the agency gave her a picture of him, but no information. So, this main character decided to find out for herself if the serial killer was her donor. It was a good story.

Would you all recommend?: Most would recommend to a friend and I would myself, although I do believe this is more "chick lit" than some of Lisa’s other books.

What did you all think of MOST WANTED?: Some of us liked it because there were so many twists and the book was fast-paced. Some of us thought the drama over small stuff was too drawn out and the author had bad grammar. Some of us loved it and others thought the plotline was not believable at all.

Rating: 4

Describe the book in three words: Fast-paced, interesting, unrealistic

How would you all describe this book?: This book is about a woman who suspects that her sperm donor is a convicted murderer. She goes on to investigate this, and sees the effect that her suspicions and this investigation has on her husband, friends, and herself. It has an interesting concept, but did not play out as an emotional thriller. There are psychological twists as to who is telling the truth, which keeps you unsure till the end.

Would you all recommend?: Some of us have already recommended this book. One member recommended it to her daughter because she likes mysteries and the wife in this book, Christine, is about her daughter's age. Others would recommend it because her peers have given birth and would resonate with Christine. The arguments between Marcus and Christine were real and could have occurred in our homes. Christine's resignation from her teaching position emitted feelings that only first hand experience can write. Some of us would not recommend it because they thought it was poorly written.

Would you all recommend?: Some said yes and some said no. Some would if the person was looking for a simple read or had infertility/donor issues.

What did you all think of MOST WANTED?: We had mixed feelings. Several members loved the book due to the action and interesting story line. Others thought the book was too easily “wrapped up” in the end. Everything was a little too convenient for main character. All members liked the attorney, Griff, because he seemed to be the stable person in the story. There were mixed feelings on the main character, Christine. For some, her actions were not believable for a teacher. Most felt that the book kept their attention to find out what would happen. We learned a lot of information about the different donor programs.

Rating: 4

Describe the book in three words: Suspenseful, emotional, upsetting

How would you all describe this book?: Members thought this book offered a good story. The context was not one we’ve read or discussed before. It would make for a good discussion on Donor Programs for book clubs as well as discussing the different emotions for the prospective parents.

What did you all think of MOST WANTED?: St. A’s Roundtable enjoyed reading MOST WANTED. Lots of feeling and emotional changes grabbed you immediately with the reading of the first chapter, let alone the first few pages. Christine’s best friend, Lauren, seemed to be the catalyst of the story. As any good friend would, Lauren seemed often to edge Christine into believing everything she heard, often before thinking questions through. However, that being said, Lauren was always there when her friend needed her. You could feel Marcus’ (Christine’s husband) sensitivity change from day one throughout the entire story. But then again, how would you feel about having an egg or sperm fathering or mothering your child and being the one in the relationship not being able to produce that sperm or egg? Into the storm of things comes the Donor 3319 whom is a killer. Throughout the story both Christine and Marcus need to listen and be more sensitive to each other’s emotions. A group member related that she and her husband had been unable to have children. They both found themselves reliving and thinking about the questions they had when discussing the possibly to using a donor. However, they chose not go this route. But the questions still linger.

Describe the book in three words: Suspenseful, dramatic, intriguing

How would you all describe this book?: MOST WANTED by Lisa Scottoline, is a book where you are hooked from the very beginning of the story. It’s a book where the chase seems to have the feeling that the ending couldn’t be caught. It’s a book with a totally surprise ending, whereby all of the characters, only knew how to kill from the heart!

Would you all recommend?: Yes, we would definitely suggest this book to friends and family.

What did you all think of MOST WANTED?: We enjoyed the book and thought is was any easy read, although a bit repetitive at times. There was a strong female lead showing the lengths a mother will go to for her child. The ending was unexpected.

Describe the book in three words: Emotional, heart-wrenching, intriguing

How would you all describe this book?: The beginning of the book drew us in immediately and we had a lot of empathy for the main character and her struggles with not knowing her baby's father. The husband and wife's relationship was a bit unrealistic as well as the switch from teacher to private investigator.  Overall, it was enjoyable with a surprising twist at the end.

Would you all recommend?: Half of our group would recommend this book to friends because they have read her other books and enjoy her as an author.

R.E.D. (Reading, Eating, Drinking) Book Club from Matthews, NC (ages 55-70)
While your group hadn’t discussed any Lisa Scottoline books before, had any members read Lisa Scottoline prior to this?: Half the group had read at least one book by Lisa Scottoline prior to MOST WANTED.

What did you all think of MOST WANTED?: The group generally liked the book and appreciated the twist at the end. Several members felt it was too wordy in spots and may have been too "preachy" about fertility clinics.

Rating: 3

Describe the book in three words: Uneven, intense, wordy

How would you all describe this book?: MOST WANTED is a chase/mystery with an intriguing twist. The men are weak and the women strong (except for crying at every development). The book has a good storyline with characters that are relatable and engaging. The twists and turns of the plot are realistic and somewhat predictable, but not so much that you are able to anticipate the ending. It is a definite page-turner.

Would you all recommend?: We had a mixed response. One member had already recommended to a friend. She felt the book was a definite page-turner. One said no. She said the plot took too long to get going and wraps up in a rush. Others said it depended on the reading taste of the friend. They would only recommend to friends who liked to read mysteries. Two members mentioned that they would recommend Scottoline's Rosato & Associates books before recommending MOST WANTED.

The Mystery Book Group from Louisville, KY (ages 40-80)
While your group hadn’t discussed any Lisa Scottoline books before, had any members read Lisa Scottoline prior to this?: Yes, several.

What did you all think of MOST WANTED?: We were divided on our thoughts on the book. We thought it would be a very good "beach read" or a made-for-TV movie. It was not a typical mystery that we usually read although there was an element of mystery there. The topic was very interesting, but some thought the main character was not very believable. Good research into the topic. The main character put herself and her child at risk and didn't appear to think of the ramifications of her actions. We were unsure if it could be true that the prospective parents would receive a picture of the donor or was that just to move the plot along?

How would you all describe this book?: MOST WANTED was suspenseful and hard to stop reading at times. It makes readers question tough ethical questions about contemporary topics, causing readers to consider their own answers to the difficult and even controversial situations faced by the characters in the book.

Would you all recommend?: We are recommending it to other friends and some didn't have their books when we met because they had already loaned the book to someone else.

What did you all think of MOST WANTED?: Half of the group liked the book, but not necessarily all of those who had read her before. Random comments: Took a while to get into the book; Got better after first 100 pages; Didn't like the ending; Repetitive --- hashed stuff over and over; Good premise; Liked it, but could have been shorter; Didn't like the husband --- he wasn't really "in" the relationship; Glad I finished it.

Describe the book in three words: Slow at times, different topic, repetitious

How would you all describe this book?: A very interesting, different subject. Sometimes heartwarming. Twists and turns with cliff-hanger ending. Griffith was a well-developed character --- would be good in a stand-alone book.

How would you all describe this book?: How would you react if you learned the sperm donor for the child you are carrying is a suspected serial killer? This is the scenario that a young pregnant schoolteacher finds herself in the middle of in this book. She turns to a detective to learn the truth.

Would you all recommend?: One yes, two nos and three maybes. The recommendation would depend on the reader. One reader felt it has more appeal for women in the 30-40 year old age range. (This group was 50 and older with the exception of the 29 year old intern librarian). The unbelievable premise of the book left some readers wanting a better executed work such as Jodi Picoult’s SING ME HOME which dealt with a similar premise.

What did you all think of MOST WANTED?: Great after we got into it. It was reported by many that you had to get to at least page 146. Very slow start. After we all read the book (a great achievement for our club), we really enjoyed it. We used the questions from the website today and they were great talking over questions.

L.A. Book Club from Cleveland, OH (ages 60+)
While your group hadn’t discussed any Lisa Scottoline books before, had any members read Lisa Scottoline prior to this?: Some of us have read and enjoyed her books.

What did you all think of MOST WANTED?: We felt that this book was a "grabber" right away due to the topic of infertility that is presently in the medical forefront. The plot got better as it went along, but the beginning dragged a little with the drama between Christine and Marcus. Christine's obsession with Zachary and her visits to him in prison was a bit far-fetched, but that is what fiction is all about! The excitement intensified and drew us in. All in all, it was a solid read and we had a good discussion.

Between the Covers from The Villages, FL (ages 55-70)
While your group hadn’t discussed any Lisa Scottoline books before, had any members read Lisa Scottoline prior to this?: Several members have read Lisa Scottoline's books, and several friends of our members highly recommended her books.

What did you all think of MOST WANTED?: We really liked the book a lot although several of us mentioned the "too convenient" ending and wished that there had been more clues. We pretty much felt that Christine maintained a typically nurturing role with Marcus and that Marcus railroaded her into the lawsuit and at the same time, caused her to lose much of her support system --- e.g. her MD, her therapist, fortunately not her friend.

Describe the book in three words: Gripping, unexpected, frightening

How would you all describe this book?: This is a story of a couple who desperately want a child, who find out that the donor may be a serial killer. It's a fast read that will keep you guessing until the end. There is a lot to discuss in the book which makes it perfect for book clubs.

Would you all recommend?: This story brings into play so many issues --- marriage, friendship, parenthood, doing what's right, family relationships --- just for starters, and provides a lot of discussion and exploration into your own values and beliefs. The author brought into the novel, themes which one doesn't really consider on a daily basis, and she also brings in a lot of different options. It is very clearly written and a fast read because the story is so compelling that you want to find out who did it.

Describe the book in three words: Suspenseful, surprising, thriller

How would you all describe this book?: It's about a married couple trying to find out if the sperm donor they used is a serial killer. This book has a different storyline than usual and will keep your attention throughout the whole book. The ending is nothing like you would expect.

Virginia Beach Mom's Book Group from Virginia Beach, VA (ages 40-60)
While your group hadn’t discussed any Lisa Scottoline books before, had any members read Lisa Scottoline prior to this?: Yes.

What did you all think of MOST WANTED?: Members of the group thought the book was thought-provoking and the premise was clever and an interesting concept. Some members thought the character development was good, while others thought the husband was a bit one-dimensional. After some discussion, we decided that perhaps the one-dimensional aspects of the husband might have been well-written. A few of the members of our group felt that the book read like a movie script, which took away from the enjoyment of the book.

Describe the book in three words: Different, intriguing, thought-provoking

How would you all describe this book?: Current and intriguing concept in an easily digestible light read.

Would you all recommend?: We all agreed that yes, we would recommend this book to a person who enjoyed this genre of literature, but not just to recommend it as a great read regardless of genre.

Sheri N. and her group from Claremont, CA (ages 60-75)
While your group hadn’t discussed any Lisa Scottoline books before, had any members read Lisa Scottoline prior to this?: Yes.

What did you all think of MOST WANTED?: The response was very favorable. While not everyone loved it, everyone finished it and entered into the lively discussion about it. It was a nice easy read. The author did a good job of foreshadowing and letting us piece the story together. It was engaging and kept me reading. There were some plot lines that were a stretch...like going to the prison and securing a lawyer for Zachary.

Describe the book in three words: Interesting, unique, readable

How would you all describe this book?: This book deals with an issue facing many couples --- difficulty getting pregnant then using a sperm donor. The story becomes highly charged when the sperm donor may be a serial killer. Differing responses from the husband and the wife and how they deal with the dilemma.

Would you all recommend?: We have already given out all of our 10 copies to other friends! One of the book group is married to a "high risk pregnancy doctor" so we had his perspective on the technical and emotional side of patients who have a difficult time getting pregnant.

Terri M. and her group from Stockbridge, GA (ages 50-70+)
While your group hadn’t discussed any Lisa Scottoline books before, had any members read Lisa Scottoline prior to this?: No member had read Lisa Scottoline prior to this book, but several have gone out and either purchased or got from the library another book by her. We all LOVED her writing.

What did you all think of MOST WANTED?: We all loved the book. We loved discussing it. None of us had known about the screening (or lack thereof) done by sperm banks and that was a huge part of our discussion. The other major part of our discussion was "what would you do...would you have gone and worked for his defense?" How many lies need to be revealed before she says "enough?"

Describe the book in three words: Thrilling, complex, deceitful

How would you all describe this book?: A childless couple uses a sperm bank and become pregnant. In the midst of their baby shower, they see a news bulletin that a serial killer has been apprehended and he looks like the sperm donor they had so carefully chosen. Questions arise: Should we abort? What is more important --- nurture or nature? The pregnant woman not only decides to meet the sperm donor, but then finds him an attorney. Lies and more lies are everywhere in this story and they all come to light as the story unfolds. When you think you have the end figured out, there is another twist (or lie) revealed. As I have said, we could not stop discussing this book and to try to describe it in two or three sentences is nearly impossible.

Would you all recommend?: We have all recommended this book. It was just that good.

Top Shelf Critics from Hilliard, OH (ages 50-65)

What did you all think of MOST WANTED?: We liked the premise of the book as a whole, but did not find the characters likeable (except for Griff) and found the story took many unbelievable turns. We all wanted to continue reading the book to see how it turned out, and thought it would make a great Lifetime movie!  It definitely created some great discussion as a book club as to what we would each do if that situation were to happen to each of us.

Describe the book in three words: Thought-provoking, page-turner, beach read

How would you all describe this book?: MOST WANTED is a thought-provoking look into the relationships between partners, friends, parents, and even strangers as their lives cross and travel down many uncertain and unexpected paths. The characters are well-developed and their actions and reactions are well-suited to their personalities. The many twists and turns keep the reader engaged through the entire story.

While your group hadn’t discussed any Lisa Scottoline books before, had any members read Lisa Scottoline prior to this?: Yes, two members.

What did you all think of MOST WANTED?: We thought MOST WANTED was an okay book, though some found it a little long, too detailed, and thought it seemed rushed at the end. One person thought the husband character was too cliché and the main character seemed to do things that were implausible. We did find the topic of sperm donor fraud to be very timely and it made for an interesting discussion, i.e. What would you do in the same situation?

Describe the book in three words: Thought-provoking discussion

How would you all describe this book?: Timely topic that makes for a good discussion. A little too long and lots of description.

How would you all describe this book?: This book catches you right away when the receiver of donated sperm sees a face on TV of accused as a serial killer that looks just like the photo she saw of her donor. Many twists and turns that keeps you intrigued. Hard to put down! We will seek out Lisa Scottoline again.

Would you all recommend?: Yes, yes, yes, yes. I already have. The friend I lent it to is giving me a hard time cause she can't put it down so it's taking time away from her knitting.

While your group hadn’t discussed any Lisa Scottoline books before, had any members read Lisa Scottoline prior to this?: A few, but not all, of our group had read Lisa Scottoline books previously.

What did you all think of MOST WANTED?: Everyone liked the book. Some more than others, but for those that had read other books by Lisa Scottoline, they said this book was not as good. One of the books brought up was LOOK AGAIN.

Rating: 4

Describe the book in three words: Fast-paced, intriguing, contrived

How would you all describe this book?: We thought the idea of the story dealing with sperm donation was very topical as there is a donation company being sued by clients that we have seen in the news recently. We also thought the title MOST WANTED was so clever, as the main character, Christine, so wanted a child and the nurse murderer was a "most wanted" criminal. It was strange that almost everyone said the one of the biggest problems with the book was that none of the main characters was very likable, except everyone loved the character of Griff and would like to see him in a future book.

Would you all recommend?: Four members of the group would recommend to a friend. Some said they would recommend other Lisa Scottoline books over this one.

Arin B. and her group from Lima, OH (ages 38-75)
While your group hadn’t discussed any Lisa Scottoline books before, had any members read Lisa Scottoline prior to this?: Only two members that had read Lisa Scottoline books before this one and they did enjoy her other titles. The rest of us were new to Lisa’s books.

What did you all think of MOST WANTED?: The whole group LOVED this book. Everyone agreed that the book grabbed you from the very beginning when the character saw her “donor” on TV and possibly up for murder. We all agreed that it is hard today to find books that grab you from the beginning and make you want to keep reading. After the book was finished, the group was wondering if there would be a continuation of the lawyer Griff and the girl working together on cases. Some in the group mentioned that they felt the story needed to touch more on the relationship between Marcus and Christine, it seemed to have wrapped up a little bit too tidy. And the ending came a little bit abruptly at the end. But the group was unanimous that there were so many wonderful layers to the story that unfolded before our eyes. The author had a beautiful way of describing each character so that you could literally picture them in your head as if a movie was going on in front of you, especially of the lawyers characters. We cannot say enough how much our group enjoyed this book. Lisa Scottoline has gained about 12 new followers that are seeking out more of her titles today.

How would you all describe this book?: This book helps define the definition of “a mother’s love” and how far a mother or an expectant mother will go to do what’s best for her child. A well-written story that grabs you from the beginning and doesn’t let go until the very end! How far would you go to keep your child protected?

Would you all recommend?: Yes, and all of us have passed the copies on to other friends to read.

How would you all describe this book?: A rather contemporary subject which artfully plays upon many complex emotional aspects of its characters, engaging the reader as well. It’s a mystery about the ethical and psychological complexities of using a sperm donor. It is a bit far-fetched, but deals with topics of current medical and cultural interest.

Would you all recommend?: Some said yes, some said yes with a caveat and some said no. One might recommend it for someone that values happy endings.

The Page Turners from McMurray, PA (ages 40-70)
While your group hadn’t discussed any Lisa Scottoline books before, had any members read Lisa Scottoline prior to this?: No, none of our members had read any of her books before.

What did you all think of MOST WANTED?: We all loved the premise --- often found this to be a great philosophical question for the 21st century. Most found parts unbelievable, like the fact that Christine was able to see the donor in jail with no credentials and that she could investigate crime scenes. It did keep us guessing. There were many typos including names.

Rating: 3

Describe the book in three words: Suspenseful, emotional, unbelievable

How would you all describe this book?: A woman who decides to use a sperm donor to become pregnant realized the donor may be a serial killer. The plot then delves into how this possibility affects her marriage, her friendships and her life. It pulls into question what would a mother do to protect the interests of her child, what makes someone a "parent" and the emotionalism of pregnancies turned "bad.”

Would you all recommend?: Some already have passed the book along to friends. A few in our group would not recommend because of the "unbelievability" of certain aspects.
